(Hari Pahlawan Dan Remembrance Day) A Day to Honor Heroes

Mostly every country in this world have a history in war situation and defenitely have a person who is having done something very brave and great in war. Hero is the most importantly person in the war time period. Because of the heroes sacrifice their life to their nation. The heroes are those who die on the battlefield to colonized other countries or repel invaders of their country. For countries that invaded other countries like Britain, it has a special day to remember their heroes who have contributed in world war period called Remembrance Day. Different from Indonesian who are trying to archive independent by expelling the invader, it remember the heroes who have contributed and fought in the battle to defend the independent of Indonesia in Nation Heroes Day.

In the past, Britain became the powerfull nation in the world because their invasion to another countries. Mostly the countries in the earth have ever been conquered by Britain. Because of the Britain invasion needed a lot of people to become an army, this is make a lot of human sacrifice their life in war. World War I makes a lot of people died and lost their family members. For that reason after the World War I ended, the nation held a memorial day to remember their people who die. That day called Remembrance day. Remembrance day is a memorial day for Commonwealth of Nation members state for respect of their army who died in the battlefield after the end of First War World whose made by King George V on 7 November 1919. Until now remembrance day in United Kingdom annualy is celebrated on 11 November every year to remember the End of World War I on that date in 1918. The Prime Minister of England, David Cameron stated, “We must remember forever, not just for today.” He remains the England citizen do not forget the war and the people who died there.

November is the time when the British people wear a red poppy in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for this nation during war. Rememberance day is also known as poppy day. Poppy itself is a garden plant. It has four beautiful petals. This flower often grow in many colour. The very famous color of poppy flower is red. Long time ago poppy is a symbol of sleep, peace, and death. Poppy flowers many grow in the battlefield when world war happen. This is make the fellow of army respect their friends who died in war with this flowers. Now for recall the soldiers who died in battleship, people wear the red poppy on their left chest. There is still a controversy about how to wear this poppy. Some people say if men who wear it must put it on their left chest whereas if women who wear it must put it on their right chest. However the Queen wears hers on the left. Royal British Legion stated, “There is no right or wrong way to wear a poppy. It is a matter of personal choice whether an individual chooses to wear a poppy and also how they choose to wear it. The best way to wear a poppy is to wear it with pride.” Maybe this is not about how we put the poppy, but how we wear it to appreciate the people who died in the battlefield with all your heart.

Remembrance Ray celebrates annually every year at 11 November. To recall the war time, the britons have a lot agenda in this month . The most important event is Remembrance Sunday. It is held on the second Sunday in November, or the nearest Sunday to 11 November. Usually there is a ceremony in England where take a place at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London that is headed by the Queen. The Queen become the first to put the wreath at the Cenotaph. Wreaths are laying beside the war memorial around the Cenotaph in Whitehall. The special thing about remembrance Sunday is a “two minute silence”. “The two minute silence” begins at 11 a.m. and it is done by the citizen in England. To begin and end this two minute silence is marked by the firing of a field gun on Horse guards Parade than followed by Royal Marines buglers sounding the Last Post. The purpose of two minute silence is a tribute to those who sacrifice their lives fighting for their country during the war. More than 10.000 veterans join the ceremony to pay their respects for their fallen comrades. During the ceremony, a poem called ‘For the Fallen’ by Laurance Binyon (1869 – 1943) is often performed which the famous and spirit stanza are “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age chall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.” This year the Prime Minister, David Cameron said that Remembrance Sunday was particularly poignant as 2014 marked the 100th anniversary of the First World War, the 70th anniversary of D-Day landings and the end of Britain’s conflict in Afghanistan.

Every 10 November Indonesia celebrates the National Heroes Day. The story begins when The England and Dutch army come to Indonesian to take control the nation even though the Indonesian goverment has been declared their Independent on August 17 1945. This event happens in Surabaya, the Provincial capital of East Java. Hence this moment is also called as battle of Surabaya because it takes a place in Surabaya, the exactly place is in Yamato Hotel. Sutomo or we known as Bung Tomo is the most significant person for this battle, because he is the one who lead the Surabaya people to take out the invaders from Surabaya. He delivered his speech in radio broadcaster and make all of people know about this situation and the people even they do not have military skills, they join with him to kick the England and Dutch army out from Surabaya. In Yamato Hotel, Surabaya people fight against the invaders with all they have, they only use the”bambu runcing” for fight. Clearly Indonesia people lost much from England and Dutch army, but they never gave up to fight till the end of their time. Although in this battle Indonesia was lost, but it still the most important events for this country during expelling the invaders while war time. To appreciate the people who died in this battle, the Indonesian goverment determine the heroe’s day is being celebrated  in every 10 november.

“A great nation is a nation that respects their heroes.” This quote will always be relevant when talking about the Nation Heroes Day. Indonesia also has a special celebration when the National Heroes Day comes. Mostly the prior things that people do in this time is praying to God for the falling army when hahero-day-bung-tomo1d battle with invaders. Commonly it takes a place in heroes graveyard. Also in that day every school in this country held the ceremony to remind about this history of this nation also the people who died for brief their soul for the independent of this country.

Different from British which the celebration for their falling army occurs in all Britain territory, The deepest celebration for National Heroes Day of Indonesia  is in Surabaya. Every year on 10 november, Surabaya helds the teather in Heroes monument that retell the story about the Surabaya people struggled the invaders who wanted to take the independent of Indonesia. This show always amuse the audiences and make them feel the situation in that time. With this event, the indonesians never forgot with the hero who sacrifices their life for this country.

Someone will go and die. Like a hero they will be gone and remembered by the people who love them. No sacrifice no victory. Every people in this world never forgot with what have heroes did. Even in Britain or Indonesia, the citizen will always know and remember the people who give their life for this nation. Now, we must take control the situation and make this world be better place. No war, just full of peacefull. Lets make a great heroes who lead for goodness.
